Shipping Costs are Live

Hello,

Shipping costs are now live on Backerkit. Now that those costs are live, you should be able to use PayPal as a payment method.

The guys at Backerkit will be sending out an automated message tomorrow or the next day with a direct link, but if you'd like to get ahead of the game you should be able to access the info from any Knave survey links you have in your inbox. If you pre-ordered through Backerkit you don't have a survey, and you'll need to log into Backerkit (instructions below).

To find your survey:

• Visit this link: https://knave2e.backerkit.com/ and input the email address you used on Kickstarter.
• You can also log into Backerkit if you have an account, click on your account image in the upper right hand corner and then go to "Your pledges and surveys". If you did a pre-order on Backerkit you should see your pledge. If you backed via Kickstarter you'll need to click on the "Your Surveys" tab on that page.

If you can't do any of these, please reach out to [email protected]. 

If you reach out by email, you need to include the name and email you used on Kickstarter. If you contact me from an email address that wasn't used on Kickstarter, and provide a name that wasn't used on Kickstarter, I can't find your pledge. If you're unsure what you used, provide your backer number.

To find your Kickstarter backer number:

• Log into Kickstarter
• Click on your account icon in the upper right hand corner
• Under "Backed Projects", click on "Knave RPG: Second Edition"
• In the upper left hand corner of that page, click on "view pledge" and scroll to the bottom.

Patches should start mailing out Monday, December 18th if we had your address as of December 1st. If you're only just now filling out a survey or providing an address, they'll go out as soon as possible. As a reminder, patches are being sent out via USPS as a standard letter, so there is no tracking, but hopefully they'll be a nice surprise, when you least expect it! :D

Hello Everyone,

To answer the looming question first: books will not ship in 2023.

That said, we are incredibly close. We're putting the final touches on Knave's cover, and doing another proof reading pass on Knave and Maze Rats. Summer's End is still in layout, but getting very close to done. Patches and posters are in hand and look great.

We've gotten shipping mostly figured out and you'll be able to see prices in Backerkit very soon™ (exact date still TBD). Broadly speaking, we expect shipping to come in lower than initially anticipated for non-US backers at around $15 per package. In the US we're looking at around $7. For those in the EU, parcels will be sent DDU with VAT due on receipt.

Our current plan is to lock orders on December 15th.

If you backed the project via Kickstarter please get your survey filled out if you haven't already. If you haven't gotten a survey, or used an Apple relay email address, reach out to [email protected] and we'll get you squared away. 

If you joined the project via Backerkit, you placed a pre-order and did not receive a survey and are good to go.

Additional Details

We'll be printing in the Czech Republic, and it's quite possible that we'll have physical printed proof copies in hand before the end of the year. The printer will be closed for 2 weeks for Christmas, and we expect the full order of books to print and ship to us in early January.

We still have EU retailers interested in Knave. If you're in the EU and concerned about shipping charges/VAT etc, we'll let you know our list of official retail options as soon as we have them.

Patches: If you purchased a Knave patch, or are elligible for a free patch they will begin shipping in the next few days if we have your address. All the patches are in hand and being stuffed into 5000 envelopes. They'll ship out to you directly as regular letter mail (no tracking number). We do have extra patches, however they are not available as addons. They will go on sale after we're through the thick of the Kickstarter fulfillment.

Posters: Posters will be shipped with books. Like the patches, we have some additional copies and they too will go on sale after we're through the thick of the Kickstarter fulfillment.

Knave: We'll get a final copy of the PDF over to everyone as soon as we have it, which should be before the end of the year. If you've submitted typos/suggestions, thank you. We've seen them and incorporated many of them, even if we haven't responded to every report. We're also working on getting the PDF filled with hyperlinks and bookmarks. 

Knave 2 Survey FAQ

Hello Everyone,

Looks like 80% of surveys have been filled out so far. If you've already done so, thank you! If you haven't seen the survey come through, check your junk/spam folders, or reach out to [email protected] and we can resend it.

1. Can I upgrade my pledge level from digital to physical, or standard to premium?

Yes. Email [email protected], and we should be able to upgrade your pledge level.

2. Do I get a PDF copy if I buy a hard copy?

Yes, you'll get a PDF copy for any hard copy of a book or zine you pickup. This includes the current draft version of Knave. 

3. Do I get PDFs immediately?

Not exactly. We're distributing PDFs through Backerkit using their digital download rules. Once a rule is setup and the file is attached we've got to hit a "start distribution" button for them to begin sending out. I just sent out The Waking of Willowby Hall and Knave (draft 9) today (10-15-23) via Backerkit. Maze Rats is having its layout tweaked slightly, and Summer's End is still in layout. We'll get those rolled out to you as soon as they're ready.

4. Are you charging me for the free Day 1 bonus patch?

No. The Knave day 1 bonus patch will be shipped to you for free. There will not be any charge associated with that. I'm getting mixed messages regarding surveys asking for credit card information though. Some people are saying it's asking for a CC, some are saying it's not. I'm still digging into this and hopefully will have a clear answer for you when I hear back from Backerkit this week. Regardless, if you're eligible for a free bonus patch we're not charging you for it in any way, including shipping.

5. A free bonus patch could cause problems with customs and VAT and media mail eligibility. What are you doing about that?

For people in the US and Internationally, patches and posters will ship separately from your order, as a regular letter with USPS. Any packages shipped to you will only contain books, and will be clearly labeled as only containing books to (hopefully) help speed them through customs. For people in the US, this means we should be able to use Media Mail for shipping your book orders.

6. I am a digital backer and I should be receiving a day one bonus patch, but when I filled out my survey it didn't ask for my address. Help?

Similar to question 4, I'm not sure why this seems to be happening for some people and not others. I've got an open ticket with Backerkit. We may need to collect your address in a more manual way, but we'll get the patch to you regardless. Stay tuned.

7. When are things shipping?

As of this point, we don't have an ETA. As soon as we know, we will publicly announce that information everywhere.

8. How much will shipping cost?

As of this point we don't have a firm estimate. I am hopeful we are getting close though. The printer is creating a couple of blank mockup copies of Knave. Once we get our hands on those we should be able to lock down our packaging needs and then weights.

9. If you don't know how much shipping is going to cost, why should I give you my credit card information?

You don't need to give us credit card information until we have the shipping cost locked down. We'll remind you when it's time to fully place the order. Filling out the survey now is incredibly helpful though for providing us with the most accurate unit counts for each title, so if you have completed it, thank you. And if you want to wait, no worries!

10. If I don't complete my survey and provide my CC information will Backerkit spam me relentlessly with reminders?

Maybe. =( 

I've got an open question to Backerkit to see if we can control the email reminder cadence. It looks like the reminders are fully automated for the first month, and after that (as far as I can tell) reminders will be sent when we push a button to send them.

11. Why haven't you responded to me?

At the moment we have contacts coming at us from multiple channels. For example some questions are coming through Backerkit, some are coming through comments on Kickstarter updates, some are coming through comments on the Kickstarter project, some are coming through Discord and some are even popping up as comments on YouTube. The absolute best way to get a hold of us is via Backerkit and by emailing [email protected]. We're sweeping as much as we can, but if you believe you've been overlooked drop us an email.

Surveys Going Out Now

Hello Everyone,

The survey smoke test with Backerkit went well and almost everyone who got a survey has filled it out. The rest of the surveys will begin going out shortly after this update goes live.

Two items of note:

• If you backed for a pledge that only contains digital items, but you backed within the first 24 hours and will receive a free patch, you will need to enter a physical address so you can get that patch. It's also possible that Backerkit may require payment information to complete that survey. I think we figured out a work around, but if it does, reach out to [email protected].
• As a reminder, because shipping costs have not yet been locked down, PayPal is not currently available as a payment method on Backerkit. Once those numbers are locked down it will be made available.

Hello!

The Knave 2 Backerkit is set up and should be good to go. We’ll be sending out surveys to 5% of backers this weekend to smoke test the system. If you receive one, please fill it out ASAP, and if you run into any problems, reach out to [email protected].

Surveys for everyone should go out on Tuesday 10/10 or Wednesday 10/11.

Callouts:

• If you ordered an add on as part of the Kickstarter it should appear automatically in backerkit. I believe there’s a confirmation step, but if you picked up a poster you should see it on your order.
• If you backed the kickstarter in the first 24 hours you will receive a free Knave patch. If you were eligible, you will see it on your order.
• Posters and Patches will NOT be available to pick up as an add on with Backerkit. Adding them to an order renders it ineligible to ship via USPS media mail in the US. We’re excluding them from Backerkit to keep things streamlined. If you’d like a patch or poster, fear not. We are ordering extra and they will be available at a later date on the Swordfish Islands shop.
• If you add on any hard copies of the book or zines on Backerkit you will receive a complimentary pdf.
• PDFs will be distributed through Backerkit, but they may not be available immediately. If you don’t receive it right away, don’t worry they’ll be along shortly.
• Shipping fees are still somewhat up in the air and are not being collected in Backerkit at this time. Because of this PayPal cannot be used on Backerkit at this time. Once shipping fees are locked down we’ll send out an update so you can fully complete your order. The printer is making us a couple dummy books so we should hopefully know our shipping weights and be able to lock this down rapidly.
